Project Overview

The Phase I-A/I-B US 62/US 285 Study, also known as the Carlsbad "Y" Phase I-A/I-B Study, is underway to examine existing conditions and potential alternatives at the interchange of US 62 and US 285 in Carlsbad, NM. It is programmed in the NMDOT Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) under Control Number (CN) 2106010.

The purpose of the study is to identify and recommend alternatives that will improve safety and connectivity for all user types of the transportation system. A combination of multimodal users, strong heavy vehicle presence, and business and driveway access points along the corridors have led to both safety and congestion issues.
